Elizabeth “Lizee” Cavazos

Elizabeth “Lizee” Cavazos was the co-captain of the McAllen bus station efforts for the year in which we saw thousands of refugees released by ICE and Border Patrol to travel by bus to sponsors in the US.  Lizee was the one to spot particular problems that were outside the norm and figured out how to solve them.  When MPP started, Lizee began visiting Matamoros every week, where she communicated with the free store managers and got to know many of the families living at the camp. Along with Susan Law and Jennifer Harbury, Lizee attended meetings in Matamoros between Mexican federal officials and other NGOs, until the coronavirus put an end to in-person meetings.  She is now the go-to person for many of the migrants in the camp, who call and message her with issues that arise. She represents Angry Tias and Abuelas on both a weekly NGO conference call and the Rapid Response Network of the Equal Voice Network.  She reluctantly but eloquently speaks with local, national and international press when necessary.  She is featured in ACTIVIZED, a documentary about new activists.
